CONGRATULATIONS TO COMMUNITY RESPONDER

The Community Responder team in the Berkshire Division are leaping with joy following a recent resuscitation success by a member of Community Response group in the Henley area.

A local garden centre manager responded to an elderly male who had collapsed in the town. He arrived within seven minutes of the call and found the patient in cardiac arrest and immediately began resuscitation. Using an automated advisory defibrillator he delivered 3 shocks to the patient, and managed to obtain a cardiac output on the 3rd shock.

A paramedic team arrived a short time later and continued advanced CPR protocols. On arrival at the RBH in Reading, the patient was transferred to ITU. We understand that the patient is making good progress, and hope to hear that he has been discharged soon.

Community Responder manager Richard Davies said, "This is great news. The Responder scheme in Henley has only been going for about eight months, so to have this success is fantastic - we’re all hoping that the patient continues to make good progress."

Community Responder Training Officer, Ian McClure added, "The Responders are doing a great job, they’re keen and willing to be involved - and now we and they are seeing the benefits of their training. I’m over the moon with this result."

We’ll keep you updated on developments.
